The Lake District has been named among the UK’s best destinations for a luxury staycation in a new list comparing British holiday spots with celebrity favourites around the world.
Holiday letting company holidaycottages.co.uk has included the Lake District in its top ten UK destinations which it says offer an alternative to glamorous international getaways.
The company compared the national park with Yosemite in California, highlighting its mountains, waterfalls and lakes as well as its reported celebrity connections.
According to holidaycottages.co.uk, while Yosemite has attracted famous visitors including Ashton Kutcher and Oprah Winfrey, the Lake District has links to stars including Sir Paul McCartney, Tom Cruise and Cillian Murphy.
The company said the Lake District offers a similar combination of dramatic peaks and water, albeit on a different scale.
As part of its “stay like the stars” list, holidaycottages.co.uk highlighted Post Knott Lodge near Windermere.
The 12-bedroom lakeside mansion is around 500 metres from the water and features a cinema room, steam room, sauna and gym, along with panoramic views across the water.
The property can accommodate up to 12 people and two dogs, with prices starting from £5,923 for a week.
Based on 12 people sharing, this works out at £70.51 per person per night.
