Update: Good news to Novak Djokovic as ‘Title defence is ON’

Daniil Medvedev sends defiant message to Novak Djokovic as he prepares to

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic will rejoice in learning that he will be allowed to enter France for the upcoming 2022 French Open as the French government is set to relax its vaccination policy. This also clears his path for the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters which will see the Serbian now allowed for the big tournaments in the Golden Swing of the ATP Tour.

The French government passed the bill to relax the vaccination mandates starting from 14th March that will allow unvaccinated foreigners to enter France. While the entire policy is yet to be announced fully, the brief news certainly covers the point over the entry of unvaccinated foreigners entering the country.

While regular vaccine tests might be seen for such individuals, it is a very small price for Novak as compared to sitting at home and not being allowed to play at the tournaments. The 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters will be held between April 9 and 17th and there might be a chance that Novak resides in his house in Monte-Carlo instead of a hotel as he was allowed to do so last year during his Round of 16 run at the tournament.

The big news will however be his chance to defend his title at the 2022 French Open having given up his Australian Open title without any defence due to Australia’s vaccination policy. This will also present Novak the chance to attempt to win his 3rd French Open title and his 21st career Grand Slam title and join Rafael Nadal in the 21-major club where the Spaniard is the lone man right now.

Novak Djokovic also set to play in Wimbledon

Barring the United States, Djokovic is welcomed to play in England as well for the 2022 Wimbledon Championships where the government is set to keep its policy of allowing unvaccinated foreigners to visit. This would mean Novak gets to defend yet another 2000 points as he is currently the 3-time defending champion at the All-England Club.

As per the current situation, the only events Novak is set to miss for the remainder of the season are the events in USA. As he is set to miss the 2022 Indian Wells Masters and the 2022 Miami Masters, he can hope that if the impact of the Covid-19 reduces by the time for the 2022 US Open, he will be able to play at the Grand Slam where he is a 3-time champion and was a runner-up last year as well.
