Sainz: I respect Hamilton more after Abu Dhabi

Lewis Hamilton Gives an Hilarious Suggestion on The Method To Solve Visibility in 2022 Cars

Carlos Sainz has revealed he respects Lewis Hamilton more because of the way the Mercedes driver conducted himself after he controversially lost the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship on the last lap of the Abu Dhabi GP.

Hamilton was gracious in defeat during the aftermath of the race, and chose to avoid social media for nearly two months after Max Verstappen won the title.

“I was surprised at how he avoided making a mess at the end of the race,” Sainz told Corriere della Sera. “Losing the title on the last lap like that, it’s just hard to accept.

Sainz: I respect Hamilton more after Abu Dhabi

“I respect him more than before for the way he managed to do it. We had a few words on the podium, he was really struggling [to comprehend the situation].”

Formula 1 race director Michael Masi’s job has come under scrutiny following the events of Abu Dhabi, whilst the FIA are set to release their findings from their investigation into the last laps of the race before the start of the new season.

Sainz feels F1 needs to avoid the direction which football has taken in recent years, where controversy is often part of the sport.

“We must not repeat the same mistake,” said Sainz. “Every football match generates controversy.

“We need to prevent F1 from approaching that kind of tension. But I don’t think the situation is disastrous, I’m convinced that it is improving.”
